Candidates for Cardiomyopathy

Who should be considered for an evaluation for cardiomyopathy?

Anyone with symptoms that could be related to an arrhythmia or congestive heart failure. These symptoms include but are not limited to:

    • Shortness of Breath
    • Dizziness, lightheadedness
    • Unexplained passing out
    • Palpitations-feeling like your heart is racing or skipping a beat
    • Swelling, especially in the legs
    • Chest pain

Anyone with a first-degree relative (mother, father, sister, brother, child) who has been diagnosed with an ‘idiopathic’ or familial cardiomyopathy.

Anyone with a family history of sudden unexplained death under the age of 35.
