(PHILADELPHIA) – Jeremy Benjamin Pitkow (“Ben”), a 2007 graduate of New Hope-Solebury High School, has received the 2007 Jeff Cooper C.A.R.E. Foundation Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded each year to a NH-S graduating senior that follows in Jeff Cooper’s likeness: a well rounded student with strong moral character, who is involved with sports and extracurricular activities and plans to attend an accredited four year college or university.

Ben, the recipient, maintained an impressive grade point average at NH-S, but also recognized the importance of other activities. In fact, he sites his participation in varsity basketball and lacrosse as invaluable in teaching him discipline, leadership and teamwork. For 3 years, Ben has volunteered at a basketball camp for New Hope’s younger players, and he also volunteers at Pumpkinfest, which is sponsored by the Bucks County Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence. Ben enjoys journalism, sports, cooking and reading science fiction novels in his free time.

In a letter thanking the Jeff Cooper C.A.R.E. Foundation for his scholarship, Ben writes:

Thank you for honoring me with this scholarship and giving me the opportunity to represent your son’s legacy. I am truly excited for this next phase of my life and education where I hope to grow as much as a person as an intellectual.

Ben will be attending Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island as a business major in the fall. The foundation extends Ben Pitkow many wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

The Jeff Cooper C.A.R.E. Foundation is dedicated to Cardiac Awareness, Research, and Education primarily for young adults aged 18-35 who are greatly affected by heart disease and are largely unaware of its symptoms and effects. In light of the untimely passing of Jeff Cooper, of Solebury, PA, the foundation was formed to create strategic partnerships, utilize resources and raise funds to increase awareness and prevention of this silent killer.
