Spring Fling
Anyone who knew Jeff can attest to the fact that socializing with friends was one of his favorite pastimes. If there was a party, friends used to joke that Jeff was “the first one in the door and the last one to leave.” And during the summer, most young Philadelphians do their socializing at the Jersey shore. Jeff was no exception. He spent every summer on the beaches of Avalon, NJ enjoying the sun and quality time with friends. So when it came time for the foundation to find an annual spring fundraising event, what would be more appropriate than a summer kick-off party?
The spring event of 2004 was held at McFadden’s (one of Jeff’s usual watering holes) and was the first fundraising event held by the foundation after Jeff’s passing. Because it was the first event, as we were about to enter one of Jeff’s favorite times of year—shore season—it was an emotional gathering of Jeff’s family and friends. The foundation decided to brand it a “Summer Kick-Off Party” because that is undoubtedly what Jeff would have wanted it to be.
Each May, we hold the event at a popular Philadelphia restaurant/bar, and guests spend the night socializing. They enjoy food, an open bar and raffles. Every year, the foundation is astounded by the generous donations from attendees. This event continues to be a gathering of Jeff’s family and friends, and a reminder of Jeff’s spirit, love of friends and his love of the summer.
